engine with Netscape Communications Corp.’s Open Directory Project,
an open-source directory that categorizes Web content with the help
of more than 20,000 volunteer editors who manage specific content
areas.”

“The directory enables users to find information as if they were
searching a library’s microfiche or card catalog, and it lets them
search for information in a hierarchical fashion — by browsing
organized categories instead of looking for a specific term or
phrase, Google officials said.”
