“As pressure for shorter development cycles mounts, more tool
vendors are pitching wares designed to help developers do their
jobs faster and better.”
“Inprise Corp. will announce, at Comdex in Las Vegas this
week, plans to release the source code of its Kylix Linux rapid
application development tool to the GNOME Foundation. The
company, which will revert to its former name, Borland, early next
year, will also announce the availability of a free version of its
Java development tool, JBuilder 4.0.”
“Inprise officials said support for GNOME (GNU Network Object
Model Environment), part of the GNU free software project, will be
added into Kylix, so that applications developed with Kylix will
adjust to the look and feel of the GNOME desktop. Inprise also is
joining the foundation and will participate in the Bonobo
out-of-process component specification, as well as add support for
Bonobo to Kylix, which is in beta.”
