ZDNet: Microsoft Loses (Just a Little) on the Web

“As measured on the Web, the number of surfers using Microsoft
operating systems has dropped a few percentage points since last
summer, according to exclusive data from the experts at StatMarket,
a division of WebSideStory…”

“There’s been a very modest rise in both Mac and ‘other’
categories — which is led by Linux, SunOS and Web TV
(a
Microsoft property) — over the past six months. That rise
translates to an almost 2% dip in Microsoft’s share
of the OS
market, which was around 95% six months ago, according to
StatMarket.”

“It’s important to note that StatMarket is not measuring
installed base, but rather the OS of those actually surfing the
Web.”
