“SAP, Germany’s largest software company, unveiled detailed
plans to support the Linux operating systems at CeBIT on
Thursday.”

“Plattner then spoke of the company’s Linux activities:
supporting Linux should not create any complications as the R/3
architecture is always laid down independently of the platform.
Furthermore, SAP has, in principal, been supporting Unix-Systems
for a long time. Customer servicing of R/3 on Linux should, said
the company, not be a problem.”

“Red Hat Linux was chosen for the distribution of 4.0B as of
R/3’s release. Plattner implied that applications, databases and
servers will all be able to run together. R/3 for Linux will be up
for grabs as from the second half of this year, added
Plattner.”
