ZDNet/UK: HP launches Web-friendly printers

“Hewlett Packard unveiled new internet printing services and
products in San Francisco last week. But of Web-based printing
services showcased by the company, more were tilted at small
businesses than enterprises.”

“The enhanced JetSend protocol, together with the Dazel document
router HP acquired last year, will allow organisations to aggregate
printing from remote locations.”

“HP also launched its departmental print appliance, the
JetDirect 4000.
The appliance can manage remote queues from a
Web Browser, and perform looksup on network printers. Intriguingly
HP opted for Linux in preference to embedded Windows NT for the
system.”
