“System vendors and Linux distributors including IBM and Caldera
Systems are set to support an independent Linux certification
process from KeyLabs Inc. that will be required for participating
system and software OEMs that want to sell Linux. The certification
will ensure that the products work with all commercial
distributions of Linux and will prevent a splintering of the
market, according to KeyLabs officials in Lindon, Utah.”

“Linux advocates will trumpet the latest standardisation efforts
as yet another victory against those seeking to shoot down the open
source platform…”

“Keylabs, which manages the Java certification process, will run
the Linux certification independently. By May, the company also
plans to have tools available for vendors that want to do testing.
A Linux certification program Web site will be up and running next
month as well, officials said.”
