“IBM believes that cementing plans for a deployment with one of
Japan’s largest retailers is a resounding affirmation of Big Blue’s
belief in Linux.”

“Lawson, Inc., a Japanese convenience store chain, is one of the
largest IBM Linux-based deployments to date. The Lawson deployment
is scheduled for completion in March, 2001, and the rollout entails
installing approximately 15,000 IBM eServer xSeries servers, all
running Linux, in 7,600 stores.”

IBM believes this deployment is an enormous coup, not just
for the company but for the Linux community.
IBM Vice
President of Linux Strategy Steve Sollazzo called the Lawson
deployment the “largest single Linux commitment ever made, and
while that’s exciting to us from a revenue standpoint, it validates
our belief that large customers around the world are beginning to
embrace Linux at an accelerating pace, and beginning to do
bet-your-business applications based on Linux.”
