swirl. A whirlwind is building around Red Hat, which since the
Tiemann vs. Schwartz cat fight last October, has been quietly
hibernating in its lair. (Though it stirred enough to occassionally
punch back with its definition of Truth.) This week, Red Hat
squinted its way into the sunlight with a widely reported leak that
a new version of its enterprise Linux operating system will be
unleashed at the show in mid-February.“The major change in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 4.0 is
support for the 2.6 Linux kernel. Other key enhancements are
features from the National Security Agency’s Secure Enhanced Linux
program that separate applications to prevent security holes in one
app from being used to exploit another, and support for files
larger than one terabyte. New versions of various business
applications will also bundled with the software…”
