TechWeb: Linux Spawns New Businesses, Renews Old

“Upstart operating system Linux is helping knock down
barriers of entry into the software market, thus creating a boon
for single person start-ups and small developers.

At this week’s LinuxWorld Expo, held here, one-person businesses
occupied floor space next to Linux players like Red Hat and VA
Linux Systems, which had very successful initial public offerings
last year, as well as computer sellers like IBM, Compaq, and
Dell.

‘It’s quite a profound market that has matured very quickly,’
said a vice president of information systems at a stock brokerage
who asked not to be identified. ‘Everybody here is enough to make a
complete solution.’ “
