Ten years ago, on October 31, 2006, the first ever version of Calibre was announced by developer Kovid Goyal, but under the name of libprs500, which was inspired by Sony’s first e-ink device, the PRS-500 Portable Reader System. Two years later, around 2008, it was time for a change, and libprs500 becomes Calibre. Many years later, Calibre has become the most popular and powerful ebook library management software you can install on your personal computer, no matter if it’s a Mac, Linux or Windows PC. And to celebrate its 10th anniversary, the developer released today the Calibre 2.71 update with a brand new set of icons.
