What is MediaWiki?
MediaWiki is a free and open source wiki software, used to power wiki websites such as Wikipedia, Wiktionary and Commons, developed by the Wikimedia Foundation and others. It also runs thousands of other websites. It is written in the PHP programming language and uses a backend database.
In this step by step tutorial we will show you how to install mediawiki. To install MediaWiki, you will need to log in to your VPS as ROOT via SSH. Once you are in the first thing you need to do is to downloads the package lists from the repositories and ???update??? them to get information on the newest versions of packages and their dependencies. It will do this for all repositories and PPAs.
