TechWeb: Witness Attacks Browser Integration

Edward Felten, a computer-science professor, testified that
Microsoft’s IE can be removed from Windows and even replaced by a
competing browser.

“Microsoft’s attorney, David Heiner, argued though Felten’s
program may have disabled the IE browser functionality, it had not
removed the primary files that make up the IE browser.”

“David Boies, the government’s lead attorney in the trial, said
that “Microsoft packaged the browser functionality into these DLLs
to make it [purposely] difficult to remove them” from the OS.”
