COMMENTARY THRIVES ON CONTRASTS.
So take a moment to savour these contrasts: a recent convert to
Linux has written a nicely phrased — and rather heartfelt —
appreciation of the OS and its Open Source philosophy, as published
at Newsforge. Meanwhile, Apple’s been (undoubtedly) paying people,
if not to switch to their systems, at least to appear in their
goofy but somehow also catchy Switcher adverts.Further, a couple of weeks ago, Microsoft got badly caught with
a poorly executed switcher “testimonial” of their own, perpetrated
on one of their websites and, as it turned out, written by one of
their hired PR bunnies. Such contrasts are interesting and
instructive. I will explain what I mean about these.
