“Oh sure, it had its lighter points. With free beer being given
out by one vendor, paintball, hot-sauce-eating competitions, not to
mention sponsored parties every night, the annual Linux Expo could
be seen as a very fun place to be.”
“But beneath the fun and the technology talks and the BOFs
(birds-of-a-feather sessions) appeared the roots of a nasty side of
Linux, one that hasn’t surfaced before. In some corners the gloves
have come off as companies fight for mindshare. Some, taking as a
given the likelihood that Linux use is going to mushroom, are now
starting to take each other on rather than advance Linux in
general.”
