German government interest in Linux builds.

Report filed for Linux Today by Christian Huettermann of LINUX.DE

LinuxTag 1999, probably
the biggest Linux Event in Germany besides CeBIT, will take place in
Kaiserslautern, Germany on June 26-27.

With nearly 60 exhibitors, three parallel conference tracks and
lots of other highlights, it is a must for every Linux enthusiast
in Germany, if not in Europe.

For more Information, please see http://www.linuxtag.de/

At the LinuxTag June 26-27th in Kauserslautern, Germany, there
will be an open discussion about “Free Software in the Public
Sector” — Linux in public institutions.

Attendees will be representatives from:

  • the state Rheinland-Pfalz
  • the SPD, biggest political
    party in Germany
  • the bsi – “Bundesamt für
Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik” (a governmental security
    organisation)
  • Microsoft Germany
    GmbH
  • the Linux Community

It seems that this will be a hot discussion, since the German
states Rheinland-Pfalz, Baden-Württemberg und
Nordrhein-Westfalen have already made deals with Microsoft to use
their products.
