“The world wide community of developers supporting Linux and its
Open Source foundation give it some powerful advantages in building
servers with strong encryption technology that bypass the export
regulations some countries use to limit strong crypto (we are
defining ‘weak’ crypto as 56 bit keys, broken in less than 24 hours
in the latest DES challenge – ‘strong’ crypto is 128 bit or greater
keys). The most notable barrier to the free export of strong
encryption is of course the United States, with its restrictive and
confusing policies.”
This article outlines some ideas for Linux developers to work
around the encryption export rules.
