PRNewswire: Oracle and Red Hat Drive Linux Forward With Next Generation E-Business Linux Platform

Oracle…and Red Hat…today unveiled a new version of the
award-winning Red Hat Linux OS which will be optimized to meet the
increasing high availability, clustering and Java support demands
of today’s emerging e-businesses.
This significant initiative
will accelerate the adoption of Linux within the e-business and
enterprise communities.”

“E-commerce without e-service is e-suicide, because inferior web
customer service means lost revenue,” said Greg Gainforte CEO and
Founder of RightNow Technologies. “Recognizing this, many of Right
Now Technologies 350 corporate customers depend on Red Hat Linux
and Oracle as their standard platform for delivering superior web
customer service. This upcoming optimized release could not be
better news for our current and future customers.”

“To enable this next-generation OS, Red Hat will partner with
various industry and Linux community leaders to deliver necessary
e-business features such as large memory facilities, large file
system, ASynch I/O and RAW Device support. Red Hat will integrate
Java (JRE) and Motif 2.1 into the enhanced Red Hat OS, and in the
future they plan to include more advanced e-business support, such
as backward and forward database and OS compatibility, a Linux
journaling file system, a volume manager and support for Intel
Architecture-64 (IA-64). Oracle and Red Hat have pledged dedicated
engineering support to ensure high quality implementations of
Oracle programs on Red Hat Linux within the e-business community.
All changes to the Red Hat Linux OS will be delivered freely to the
entire open source community under the GNU General Public License
(GPL) to benefit all enterprise Linux users worldwide.”
