AboutLinux.com: Moving to Linux: Part 2 – Settling In

[ Thanks to Bill

for this link. ]

Readers may remember the first part of this series, wherein the
author found himself deciding, in the wake of hardware failure, to
give the Linux desktop a spin with Mandrake 8. He’s back with this
installment, wherein he discusses the GUI mail client and office
software he settled on to stay productive.

“Netscape Composer is an adequate HTML editor; IBM’s
Home Page Builder looks quite promising. I still have to try
StarWriter in HTML mode; saving a normal document as HTML from
StarWriter does not produce acceptable results.

I had no problems whatsoever using the Gimp to fully replace the
bitmap editing / cropping / optimizing I used to do with various
packages under Windows.

I cannot compliment the Gimp crew enough; it is a seriously
great piece of software. Once I install the thumbnail plugin
several readers told me about (thanks!) it will be even
better.”
