BW: GX Technology In Major Expansion Due to Dramatic Rise in Depth Imaging Demand

“GX Technology Corporation (GXT) announced today that it is
continuing a major resource expansion in response to a dramatic
rise in industry demand for prestack depth imaging services. To
accommodate the large number of recently awarded depth imaging
projects, GXT has significantly increased both its computing
capacity and its staff of experienced depth imagers…”

“Other business drivers are prompting the current increase in
demand for depth imaging services. “The recent round of industry
downsizing and a backlog of near-term, high-risk drilling
commitments are also factors in the trend toward outsourcing depth
solutions,” said Kevin Donihoo, Senior Vice President of Business
Development and Marketing.”

Anticipating this demand, in late 1998 GX Technology
introduced its new-generation Primus(TM) 3D prestack depth imaging
service, tuned for maximum performance on a state-of-the-art 36-CPU
DEC Alpha cluster running Linux.
The facility was increased to
100 nodes in the first half of 1999, and by the end of November GXT
will have expanded its computing capacity to over 500 nodes of
parallel supercomputing, the majority of which consists of DEC
Alpha and Sun clusters installed at GXT.”
