CodeWeavers: CrossOver Office 1.1, CrossOver PlugIn 1.1.2 Released

CodeWeavers, Inc., has unveiled new versions of two members of
its product line: CrossOver Office Version 1.1 and CrossOver PlugIn
1.1.2.

CrossOver Office Version 1.1 is the newest version of
CodeWeaver’s software solution that allows Linux and Unix users to
operate Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes on their PCs without the
Windows operating system.

“The most exciting new feature in Version 1.1 is the ability to
operate Windows Productivity Applications on any Unix desktop that
supports the X11 protocol. A single installation of CrossOver
Office on a Linux appliance can serve hundreds of Unix desktops,
all without the substantial costs and hassles of alternate
solutions.” Said Jeremy White, founder and president of
CodeWeavers.

Until now, Unix users who wished to operate MS Office or Lotus
Notes were forced to install an expensive solution such as Windows
Terminal Services or a Sun Pci card. With CrossOver Office,
individuals and businesses can go directly to Notes or Office,
speeding deployment, reducing costs, and improving the overall user
experience.

With Version 1.1, CodeWeavers is officially supporting both
Outlook and Internet Explorer. This enables organizations to make
the transition to a Linux desktop without having to completely
replace their internal systems.

Version 1.1 provides support for most Western languages,
including German, French, Italian, Portugese, and many more. “The
support for Portuguese was something invaluable, that will enable
wide scale use, for both private and government institutions. It
will close one of the last issues preventing nation wide adoption
of Linux” said Rodrigo Barbosa of TIS/Brazil. CodeWeavers expects
to complete support for double byte languages such as Japanese,
Chinese, and Korean in the near future, which will then complete
the CrossOver language support.

Version 1.1 also provides a wide range of other bug fixes and
enhancements, including better support for document automation,
full support for printing True Type fonts, and many more.

CrossOver Office is priced at $54.95 per user, with workgroup,
site and enterprise license discounts available.

CrossOver Plugin version 1.1.2, the company’s Windows-To-Linux
adapter for Windows browser plugins and document viewers.

This is a maintenance release which builds on top of the 1.1.1
release to further improve stability and support for all
environments.
