“Computers were created as a tool. A tool to help people
accomplish various goals, from scientific research to heavy
financial calculations for business purposes. In the 70’s, no one
thought of the computer as a primary information or communication
tool. Now, times have greatly changed, and with the help of the
Internet, many people use their computers primarily for
communication or for information gathering.”

The Internet helps bring the world together, regardless of
country, ethnicity, or wealth.
It also helps bring information
about everything to everyone. The only requirement is to have a
computer to connect to the Internet. This is no problem for most of
us in industrialized countries, but may be a big problem in
developing countries. Which brings me to the core of this
article.”

“The best feature of Linux is that it is free. Both in the open
source way and in relation to money. This feature alone guaranties
that truly everyone have full access to computers, both as a user
and as a programmer. Linux and other free software is one step in
the right direction, one step to full access to the latest
knowledge, for everyone. The Internet was the first step, the open
system (the PC) created by IBM when they released all of the
system’s specifications was the second step, and Linux continues on
that route.”
