Yesterday the Free Standards Group’s board of directors approved
the Linux Standard Base v1.3 architecture specifications for S390,
S390X, and PPC64 and issued a call for the public review the
specifications for the AMD64 architecture.
The Linux Standard Base (LSB) is comprised on one common
specification, and seven individual specs that each focus on
specialized platforms, such as Intel 32- and 64-bit and PowerPC 32-
and 64-bit architectures.
With yesterday’s announcement, all of the LSB specs are now up
to the 1.3 version level, save the AMD64 specification document,
which is still at draft version 0.9. The Free Standards Group (FSG)
is asking for a public review of this document until June 20,
2003.
Once the review period is over and the comments incorporated
into the document, the LSB’s AMD64 specifiation will be added to
the architecture-specific set.
The LSB plans to have certification programs ready for S390
& S390X in 3Q03, and PPC64 by the fourth quarter of 2003. This
will add to the FSG’s IA32, IA64, and PPC32 LSB certification
programs.
The AMD64 draft specification is available for online
review. The entire
set of LSB specifications is also available online.
