Linus Torvalds made no official announcement about this release,
but it has shown up at the kernel.org ftp sites.

Oddly enough, although the name of the file identifies this as
2.2.0-pre9, one realizes at closer examination that this kernel’s
Makefile states that the actual version is “2.2.0-final”.

Until word is received from Linus Torvalds, we won’t know if
this is intended to be the official 2.2.0 release or not. Stay
tuned for more information as we get it.
