NeTraverse Inc.and Xandros today announced a strategic
partnership to expand the range of solutions to individual users
and corporate clients. By combining Win4Lin with the Xandros
Desktop, users can now operate the full range of Windows
applications, and organizations can leverage the powerful
advantages of Linux while preserving their current investments in
Windows-based systems and applications.
More and more organizations are looking to migrate to the
Xandros Desktop because of its robust, secure environment, and the
freedom it brings from forced upgrades and escalating license fees.
This joint solution preserves a firm’s investment in any of
millions of Windows applications, but also custom Windows
applications, such as to access a billing database, legacy
client-server front ends from companies such as Seibel and
PeopleSoft, Windows productivity suites, as well as state of the
art development tools like Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe
Framemaker, Delphi, and AutoCAD.
Xandros and NeTraverse will partner to offer a free trial
version of Win4Lin via its Xandros Networks, and market the
NeTraverse products with the Xandros Desktop to individuals and
corporations.
NeTraverse will offer a specially priced edition of Win4Lin to
all Xandros users who choose to purchase Win4Lin Workstation
Edition 4.0, and market Xandros Desktop to their worldwide network
of partners and end users.
“Our strategy is to deliver the best solutions to corporate,
educational, and home users,” said Rick Berenstein, director of
Xandros. “One of the barriers to Linux adoption has been the
availability of the full-breadth of Windows applications.
NeTraverse delivers a unique solution that allows Windows to
operate as an application on a Linux desktop or to remotely render
applications through thin client technology”
“We are very pleased to be partnering with such an established,
yet ground-breaking company, like Xandros. Ease of use, a
comfortable look and feel combined with a complete set of
state-of-the-art desktop services are essential to mainstream
acceptance of a Linux Desktop”, said James Curtin, President and
CEO of NeTraverse. “Together with NeTraverse’s ability to provide
seamless compatibility with the broadest range of Windows
applications running on Linux, there is no better combination for a
pain-free migration to the security and cost-saving advantages of
Linux.”
