Linuxtoday.com.au: Wanted: Console Word Processing

[ Thanks to renai43

I admit this might seem cranky, but I’d really like to see
someone develop a classic text-based word processor that will run
in console mode. While editors like vi are more than adequate for
editing code, they’re somewhat clumsy tools for those of us who
earn a living from writing.

“On the other hand, while there are some goodish writing tools,
Abiword and WordPerfect 8 spring to mind, which run in various X
windows managers, I sometimes feel that powerful graphical user
interfaces are wasted on word processors.”

“To my mind the golden age of personal computer word processing
was almost twenty years ago. In those days we didn’t have mice –
which bad news for professionally trained typists as it slows down
typing speeds and causes RSI. Most of us didn’t even have colour
monitors. We had to live with monochrome, often green CRT displays
or laptop computers with reddish text. We weren’t burdened with
making decisions about fonts, or page layout.”
