File it under “from the horse’s mouth”: Microsoft’s Steve
Ballmer is quoted by Reuters as saying “Corel is free to do
whatever it wants with Linux.”
An
article by Reuters appearing today on Yahoo! has Ballmer
complaining that Microsoft’s an industry punching bag and
maintaining that the terms of the deal with Corel, in which
Microsoft made a $135 million investment in exchange for Corel’s
development of .NET-oriented software, does nothing to impeded
Corel’s Linux business.
Corel has yet to announce who it will be selling its Linux
distribution business to, months after it announced it’s no longer
going to maintain its Corel Linux OS distro in favor of focusing on
its best sellers: graphics design tools.
