“Ordinarily, one thinks of video editing as a task requiring the
lastest high-powered desktop hardware, a large array of fast
storage devices, and two or more large monitors. Yet, it needn’t be
so, claims JayCut. The company earlier this year began offering
web-server based video editing services accessible via standard
browsers such as Firefox. The browser-based client provides the
control interface, while all the heavyduty video processing happens
on JayCut’s remote servers.“Now, JayCut has ported its second-generation browser
application — currently beta testing — to Adobe’s AIR platform.
AIR, of course, is a client-side runtime that lets users install
browser apps as if they were local applications. AIR is available
for Linux, Mac, and Windows OSes, and has attracted lots of apps,
including some that interface with web APIs from Twitter, eBay,
Google Analytics, YouTube, and Pandora Radio, to name a few.”
