“Oracle’s chief operating officer Ray Lane wants to drop
Windows NT as one of the company’s primary development environments
in favour of beefed up support for Unix, but has no plans to
use Linux as a platform to build its products.”
“Oracle currently does initial coding using Sun’s Solaris
operating system (OS), before building actual products that run on
both Solaris and Windows NT.”
“It then ports the completed product to an additional 83 OSs,
including IBM’s AIX, HP/UX and Linux. But the next release of the
Oracle database – 8.2 – will see HP/UX added to the list of primary
development platforms and if Lane gets his way, NT will soon become
just another standard port.”
