BW: IDG World Expo Announces Winner of The $25,000 IDG/Linus Torvalds Community Award

“IDG World Expo, a business unit of International Data Group
(IDG), the world’s largest IT media and information services
company, today announced the Free Software Foundation (FSF) as the
winner of its $25,000 “IDG/Linus Torvalds Community Award” for its
continued support of the Linux community.”

“This award honors an association that actively supports the
Linux community,” said Charlie Greco, President and CEO of IDG
World Expo. “FSF is one of the associations on the forefront of
expanding the free software movement, and IDG is recognizing the
dedication of this group with the `IDG/Linus Torvalds Community’
award.”

“The Free Software Foundation is dedicated to eliminating
restrictions on people’s rights to use, copy, modify, and
redistribute computer programs. The FSF promotes the development
and use of free software, particularly the GNU operating system,
spreading awareness of the issues concerning software users’
freedom. The foundation concentrates on developing new free
software, such as its graphical user interface GNOME, in an effort
to eliminate the need for proprietary systems and programs.”
