more affordable alternative to databases from heavyweights such as
Oracle and IBM. MySQL forms part of the group of free software
often used by Open Source proponents in the enterprise space known
collectively as LAMP, which stands for Linux, Apache, MySQL and
PHP.“According to Marten Mickos, MySQL’s chief executive officer,
the goal for the coming year is to evolve its database with new
features and better performance. MySQL AB will also partner with

similar to what Oracle provide in PL/SQL, vendors like IBM are
still taking the new developments of MySQL in their stride. ‘While
MySQL provides relational database capability, as does DB2 and
Informix, we do not believe MySQL addresses many enterprise-size
issues as well as DB2, namely, scalability, performance,
high-availability,’ said Zoran Kiternas, country manager, IBM
Singapore Software Group. ‘DB2 also has a wealth of supporting
tools from IBM and from others that sets it apart from
MySQL…'”
