“The SuperComputing 99 (SC99) conference, held recently in
Portland, Ore., is by no means an EDA-related show. Yet, Silicon
Graphics Inc. (SGI) demonstrated the Synopsys VCS Verilog simulator
running on a 132-CPU Linux “server farm.” The demo reflected a new
phenomenon that is taking the logic verification world by
storm.”
“Part of the demonstration’s intent was to show that Synopsys
and SGI are working together to accelerate VCS on Linux. “We are
absolutely going to tune our systems to run at peak performance
with Synopsys,” said Paul Chermak, SGI’s vice president of
application solutions. He said SGI is working with several EDA
vendors to maximize performance on Linux, an operating system to
which SGI has made a major corporate commitment.“
