I found a really interesting reference to a new distribution for
Japan. Here is an excerpt from the article (Nikkei Sangyo Nikkei
Sangyo, 11/18/98, p.1):
“FUJI Photo FILM will sell Linux, a UNIX-based operating system
which seems to be becoming increasingly popular globally.”
It goes on to say that their subsidiary “FUJI Magnetics” are
partnering with a database company called “Gideon” to write
applications for Linux.
Apparently, it will sell for 14,800 yen or $122.
Linux Today: Do you know of a URL to confirm this?
I don’t have a URL. I picked up the article from an internal IBM
news-gathering source. The part in brackets is the closest thing to
a reference…
Just in…

Yes, the rumor is true. Fuji’s announcement can be found at
http://www.fujifilm.co.jp/news_r/nrj398.html
Although the announcement is available only in Japanese, you can
still find a nice looking penguin in the attached photo.
They say that the package is “only for server use.”
