iSeries Network: New Notes Client Eclipses Microsoft Office

“Got Microsoft? It won’t matter much longer if you don’t, as
long as you have the IBM Lotus Notes client. The next release of
Notes, codenamed Hannover, will begin beta testing this fall with a
set of office productivity tools that support the industry-standard
OpenDocument Format (ODF), Lotus announced this week at a user
group conference in Germany.

“The productivity tools will let users create, edit, and save a
variety of documents, including word processing, spread sheet, and
presentation documents, in the ODF format. The editors also will
import and export file formats used by Microsoft Office and some
OpenOffice file formats and let users edit those files and then
save them in either the original format or as ODF documents…”
