“The Linux over PPC gurus at Terra Soft Solutions have
announced the unveiling of their rack-mounted, eight-node, Apple G4
cluster running Black Lab Linux with Myricom’s networking gear and
Apple’s Wireless AirPort for connectivity at this year’s
MacWorld Expo slated for July 18-21 in New York.”
“Attendees will find an iBook running Black Lab Linux and
displaying computation intensive images generated on the eight-node
supercomputer — with only AirPort to connect the iBook to the
cluster,” said Terra Soft’s CEO, Kai Staats….”
“Black Lab Linux has grown to enable connectivity capacity from
six to an estimated 1,000 Apple G4s in parallel, according to a
recent Terra Soft announcement. With Myricom’s Myrinet networking
solution consisting of a peripheral component interconnect (PCI)
card, cables, and custom switches, “these supercomputing systems
enjoy a low latency, 160 MBPS dedicated throughput per
channel.”
