MaximumLinux.org: Slackware Linux Release 8.0 Review

[ Thanks to Mark

A friendly (but brief) look at Slackware 8 says it may not
install pretty, but the few rough edges do nothing to stand in the
way of the distribution’s emphasis on stability and security:

“…I consider my user experience level with Linux to
be somewhere shy of intermediate. But I remember installing
Slackware Linux several years ago from floppy disks whose images
took several hours to download over the blazing fast 14.4kbps
connection I was using at the time. I did it on encouragement from
a friend who suggested it would be easy. At the time it wasn’t. It
took me over two weeks before I got everything to work right. How
things have changed.

While not as pretty to look at during setup as other major
distributions, installing and using Slackware Linux is easier than
ever. Despite the few and minor rough edges I described here (none
of which were any more difficult to overcome than the other
distributions I’ve tried) this is the most stable and clean running
Linux installation I have ever used. For the time being it is now
my distribution of choice.

Those desiring the emphasis on security and stability in their
Linux installation should strongly consider Slackware 8.0.”
