“What do you get when you use Linux to combine the freedom
of MP3 and the simplicity of a stereo component?
The Linux
Compressed Digital Audio Transport (LCDAT). The LCDAT is a Linux
hardware-based project that abounds in features ranging from
optical audio output to ripping and encoding of CD?s. Joseph
Mesterhazy, the mind behind the LCDAT, has released the source code
under the GNU General Public License (GPL), enabling anyone to
modify or submit improvements to the player program. As a result,
the LCDAT has evolved from a simple college project into an open
standard for Linux based stereo components. MP3.com recently had
the opportunity to discuss the project with Mesterhazy.”
