“…Other companies want increasing say in Java. Sun is trying
to open up Java as much as possible, but they will not give it to a
standards body….”

“I whole-heartily agree. A standards body could really muck
up Java. And could a standards body prevent Microsoft pollution? I
don’t think so….

“The why is simple in my understanding. Developers don’t want a
splintered Java. When I raised this question to my fellow Java
developers, all of them agree with this position. Why? Because they
aren’t going to develop with a splintered Java.”
