Red Hat Software seeks to hire Technical Writer

Red Hat Technical Writer Position – Position DB-TWR-01
– – – ———————————————-

As a technical writer, you will be responsible for writing
documentation for Red Hat Linux and associated products. The
documentation will be produced in both print and electronic forms,
most notably HTML. At present we use LaTeX, but are in the process
of migrating to SGML (using the DocBook DTD).

Primarily, the type of documentation desired will be targeted at
novice level users with a basic understanding of computers, but
little more. Our goal is to make Red Hat Linux accessible to people
of all skill levels, and our documentation must support that
goal.

Because high quality documentation is not produced in a vacuum,
the applicant will be expected to work closely with our software
engineers, quality assurance personnel, and to spend time in the
test lab installing, configuring, and using the software to be
documented.

Red Hat Software, and the Documentation Department in
particular, are a tightly-knit group of people, so the applicant
will need to work well within a team. At the same time, the
applicant should be a self-starter and have the ability to carry
projects to completion on their own.

Qualifications:

4 yr degree required
At least one year Linux experience required
Experience with end-user documentation required

Not required, but bonus points given for experience with:

SGML/Docbook
LaTeX

Because this position deals with writing documentation, we would
really like to see examples of your previous work (web sites you’ve
written content for, applications with your work, other
compositions, etc).

The position is in RTP, North Carolina and is available now! If
you’re not familiar with NC, the area is close to the center of the
state. RTP is at the center of Durham (home of Duke University),
Chapel Hill (home of UNC) and Raleigh (home of NCSU and the capital
of the state).
