SF Chronicle: Readers Spin a Line On Linux

“We received more than 40 e-mails in response to the June 3
articles ‘Replacing Windows With Linux,’ which chronicled staff
writer Henry Norr’s difficulties in installing the Linux operating
system on his home computer. Many offered highly technical advice
on using and installing Linux; a sampling follows.”

“Editor — I must ask if Mr. Norr has tried to set up Microsoft
Windows 98 or NT from scratch, or worse yet, tried to install it on
a machine with Linux already installed. Microsoft products just
destroy everything that is already there. This may make this easy,
but will cost you everything you already have.”

“On a virgin machine, I find NT the worst to install, with
Caldera 2.2 and Windows 98 about the easiest.”
