Windows Magazine: Win98 Second Edition Now Available

“Microsoft released Windows 98 Second Edition to retail stores
Thursday.”

“SE isn’t a dramatic departure from the original Win98, but does
include Internet Explorer 5.0, Internet Connection Sharing, and the
Service Pack 1 collection of updates and fixes. It also contains
new or improved support for a series of technologies, including
Device Bay, ATM, networking, Wake-on-LAN, and Windows Driver Model
modems.”

“But before you rush out and buy the $109 list price ($89 street
price) SE replacement of the original Windows 98 upgrade CD,
there’s a far less expensive alternative. Microsoft is making
available a $19.95 CD it calls Windows 98 Second Edition Updates.
This product will only work if you already have an original Windows
98 CD or an existing Windows 98 installation. But in all other
respects, Microsoft says it’s exactly the same. To save yourself
about $70, order by phone with a credit card by dialing
1-888-287-9755, or visit Microsoft’s website to access a secure Web
order form.”
