LinuxInsider: Open Source Not Without Risks

“Here is the scene: A big company produces open source software
and charges large sums of money for the code. Then they ask the
customer to assume the legal and financial risk for that software.
Sounds like science fiction right? Actually this is what IBM is
asking its customers to swallow. One such product is WebSphere,
based on the open source Apache Web server. In fact any IBM product
developed on an open source platform falls into the same category.
The argument is that a customer could change the product
themselves.

“This is another follow-on from the SCO attempt to sue everyone
on the planet using Linux. Basically the SCO initiative appears to
be aimed at the whole open source market and an attempt to
destabilize the concept…”
