Netflix last year described the use of Chaos Monkey, a tool it developed to instill short outages in its network that the company says will “make sure we can survive this common type of failure without any customer impact.” The tool eventually snowballed into what is now called the “Simian Army,” which consists of an army of attackers, ranging from Latency Monkey to Doctor Monkey to even Chaos Gorilla, and provides Netflix with some useful information on what its network can withstand.
On Monday, Netflix released the Chaos Monkey army into the open source community.
