VNU Net: More Linux rollouts in 2001 says IBM ‘roadmap for Linux’

“IBM expects “a significant number” of Linux deployments over
the course of 2001, and is boosting its Linux support offerings to
try to overcome enterprise conservatism.”

“In the past, the common perception of Linux was that it was not
for widescale deployment and there were major concerns about
support,” said IBM deep computing vice president, Dave Turek.”

“According to the IBM roadmap for Linux, the operating
system will penetrate all levels of the enterprise in parallel,
growing upwards from existing application areas such as individual
file servers.
IBM will also develop the ‘middle ground’ of
standalone servers as third party software availability grows, and
tackle the high-end datacentre market with clustered Linux
