PC Week: It’s official: AOL, Netscape are hitched

“It took almost four months to seal the deal, but America Online
Inc. announced Wednesday that it has acquired Netscape
Communications Corp. for a whopping $8.9 billion — more than
double the initial price, thanks to soaring stock prices.

“Cloaked in silence for the past several months, the acquisition
process accelerated in recent days, with the U.S. Department of
Justice approving the buyout on Friday and Netscape shareholders
giving the nod earlier today.”

“Under the terms of the deal, Netscape shareholders will receive
.9 shares of AOL stock for every Netscape share they own.”
