“While the ILOVEYOU virus was one of the biggest news stories
this week, most media coverage missed the key point – that it only
affects users of Microsoft’s Outlook email client. The nexus
between the virulent virus, Microsoft and Linux is important for
three reasons:”

“Virus writers are likely to target Microsoft products because
they are more widely distributed than anything else. This means the
virus causes maximum damage and gets maximum publicity.”

“…While it’s understandable that some individuals in the
Linux camp are feeling a little smug about ILOVEYOU, there’s no
reason to celebrate. We are not immune to security problems. One
look at the weekly Linux security roundup should be enough to sober
most people.
